year round, Viet Nam is a wonderful tourist destination.
Ha Long Bay is recognized by UNESCO as one of the
natural wonders of the world, with over 3,000 dramatic
and magical islands set in pristine water. Phong
Nha Cave is one of the largest and most beautiful
caves in the world. Viet Nam has many cool mountain
villages including Sapa and Dalat; clean and unspoiled
beaches can be found the length of the country.
There are hundreds of historical and cultural sites
including the Hung Temple, Co Loa, the Temple of Literature
in Ha Noi, My Son Sanctuary, the ancient city of Hoi
An,and the Citadel at Hue. Thousands of pagodas, temples,
and churches can be found throughout the country.
Vietnamese cities and villages take pride in their architectural
jewels of traditional and colonial design. Finally, it
is very interesting to observe the distinctive traditions
of the various ethnic groups that comprise our wonderful
country.

Attractions |

Quan Su Pagoda
Quan Su Pagoda was first built on the land
of An Tap Village, Tho Xuong District, on the southern
gate of Thang Long Capital. In 1934, the pagoda was the
headquarter of the Northern Buddhist Association.Since
1942, the pagoda has been restored and expanded many
times with a larger and better architectural structure.
Since 1958, this place has acted as the head office
of
the Vietnam Buddhist Association. |

Cu
Chi Tunnels
Cu Chi Tunnels consist of more than 200km of underground tunnels. This main axis
system has many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters, and entrances
to other tunnels.Cu Chi District is known nationwide as the base where the Vietnamese
mounted their operations of the Tet Offensive in 1968.The tunnels are between
0.5 to 1m wide, just enough space for a person to walk along by bending or dragging.
However, parts of the tunnels have been modified to accommodate visitors. |

Ngoc Son Temple
Ngoc Son Temple was built on an island in the
19th century. Initially, the temple was called Ngoc Son
Pagoda and was later renamed Ngoc Son Temple, since temples
are dedicated to saints.The temple as it is today is the
result of renovations made by Nguyen Van Sieu in 1864. |

Hang Kenh Communal House
Hang Kenh Communal House, also referred to
as Nhan Tho Communal House in Sino-Vietnamese, is situated
in Du Hang Kenh Commune, Haiphong City. Built in 1856,
Hang Kenh Communal House was later expanded in 1905.
The main front hall, also called dai dinh, connects
to the back part through a tiled roof bridge. |

Halong Bay
Halong Bay is located in the northeastern part
of Vietnam and constitutes part of the western bank of
Bac Bo Gulf, including the sea area of Halong City, Cam
Pha Town and part of Van Don island district, Quang Ninh
Province. |

Prenn Falls
The 10km long pass is on the route from Dalat
to Ho Chi Minh City. The famous waterfall is located approximately
100m from the road. As you approach the falls, you will
be able to notice the subtle change in temperature brought
by the mist from the water falling from a height of 10m.
The foot of the falls is a small valley covered with flowers
and pine trees. |

Cat Tien National Park
Covering an area of 74,319 hectares, the Cat
Tien National Park has preserved its original natural soil
with a diverse ecological system and many rare and valuable
species of animals listed in the Red Book of Endangered
Animals. The landscape surrounding the Park is magnificent,
and the local people have maintained practising customs
and habits full of national cultural identities. |

Tet
Nguyen Dan (Lunar New Year) (January)
This biggest festival celebrated by all Vietnamese falls on the first day of
the lunar year and lasts for an entire week. It is a family-oriented celebration
where every family member get together to offer each other wishes for health
and happiness and also forgive one another. Also not forgetting their late relatives,
incense are lighted for them. |

Dong
Da Festival (January)
This annual event celebrates
the triumphant historical victory of King Quang Trung
(Nguyen Hue) against the invaders
of the Vietnamese nation. There is a procession, and a
recount of the war, including a fire dragon which is decorated
with straw, cataphyll, and coarse paper. The "Thang
Long Fire Dragon" has become a symbol of victory for
the Vietnamese nation. Other activities are games and competitions
that challenge the skills and intelligence of participants.

Co Loa Festival (January)
On the 6th day of Tet, the literature procession is preceded
by a flag that symbolizes the 5 elements (metal, wood,
water, fire and earth), a musical company, and a sacrifice.
The Literature Stand set at the Imperial Court's Sedan
Chair is shaded by a parasol. In the courtyard, one can
see many colorful festival flags and Dai Flags (great ones)
fluttering in the wind.On either side of the temple gates
are a couple of red horses and white horses with colorful
saddles.

Cau Ngu Festival (January)
This traditional festival is organized in memory of the
village tutelary genie Truong Quy Cong. His alias is Truong
Thieu, and he was a native of the North who came to the
village to settle, teach the locals how to fish, and trade
junks.

Whale
Festival (March)
The Whale Festival has been, for centuries, the biggest
water festival of the fishermen in Quang Nam, Da Nang province.
The worshipping of the whale is not only about paying respect
to their God, but also about ensuring prosperity for the
villagers. This festival last for two days from the middle
of the 3rd month of the lunar calendar. On this occasion,
the whale temple, as well as all the houses and boats,
are beautifully decorated.

Elephant
Race Festival (March)
The race track is on even ground where the forest clearing only has a few big
trees. The width of the track is large enough for 10 elephants to stand in a
line at the same time and the length of the track runs 1-2 km. |

Hung
Temple Festival (March)
Every year, this national festival is held to worship the Hung Kings, who were
instrumental in the founding of the nation. The festival lasts for 3 days from
the 9th to the 11th of the 3rd month of the lunar calendar. The worship service
is held on the 10th day and commences with a flower ceremony with the participation
of state representatives. In Thuong Temple where the Hung Kings used to worship
deities with full rituals, the ceremony consists of a lavish five-fruit feast.
Cakes and glutinous rice dumpling are also served to remind people of the Lang
Lieu Legend (the 18th Hung King who invented these cakes), and the merit of the
Hung Kings who taught people to grow rice. |

Chu
Dong Tu Festival (March)
Saint Chu Dong Tu was one of the "four immortal heroes" at the centre
of Vietnamese society. A cultural hero and the founder of agriculture as he had
conquered the marsh, and developed agriculture and trade. After the opening ceremony,
to remind people of the legend, life, and work of Saint Chu Dong Tu and his two
wives, there is a procession. |

Le
Mat Village Festival (March)
In the early morning of the 23rd day of the third month, representatives
of the 13 camps at the west of the Ancient Capital of Thang Long carry
13 trays of food over their heads from capital to the Le Mat Village. At
the beginning of the festival, water and carp processions are staged and
brought to the Thanh Communal House. This ritual reminds the present generation
of the heroic man's accomplishments of exploiting and bringing about agriculture
to the village.

Giong
Festival (April)
The date commemorates the Saint Giong who defeated the An invaders. In
order to show their gratitude to the hero of Giong Village, who sacrificed
his life to fight the invaders, people have proclaimed him Saint Giong.
Preparation for the festival occurs from the 1st day of the 3rd month to
the 5th day of the 4th month of the lunar calendar. The procession marches
from the Mother Temple to Thuong Temple with the performance of a religious
service. After reaching the temple, a feast to the troops occurs. When
night falls, a Cheo play is performed (a classical opera of Vietnamese).
The festivities ends on the 10th day of the 4th month, as the troops withdraw
and a thanksgiving procession occurs.

All Souls' Day (July)
This day is spent in the pagodas praying. This is the time
for the Buddhists to forgive the lost souls, to fulfill
filial duty, and to remember the dead. Votive paper, as
well as shoes and dresses made of paper are burned as an
offering to the dead. |
